Staging of 25th Siargao Int'l Surfing Cup peaceful, orderly
BUTUAN CITY -- The Police Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-Caraga) has declared the recently-concluded 25th Siargao International Surfing Cup peaceful and orderly.
The annual international watersport competition, sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSF), was held from October 5 to 9 in the town of General Luna on Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
According to the assessment released to the media on Monday, PRO-Caraga said more than 200 police personnel were deployed during the weeklong competition to provide security to the professional surfers, as well as the local and foreign tourists who watched the international event.
Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr., PRO-Caraga director, personally visited Siargao Island to oversee the security operations, the PRO-Caraga statement said.
Esquivel attributed the success of the event to the unified effort of the police, the military, and the local government units in the area.
Esquivel also recognized the assistance of other partner agencies and community stakeholders who “collaboratively worked to ensure the safe, peaceful and orderly conduct of the international event.”
Esquivel, together with the PRO-Caraga staff and Col. Adolph C. Almeda, the police provincial director of Surigao del Norte, conducted field visits and inspection in General Luna on October 7, 2019.
The following day, Esquivel visited the other police stations on the island, particularly in the towns of Burgos, Sta. Monica, and San Benito. (PNA)
